現在38〜39歳（平成14現在）の私たちは、あと３年で数えの42歳を迎えようとしています。
（※ 平成17年の みやく会は「後厄」になります。）
これは男の大厄となる年齢です。男性の場合、数えで25歳と42歳、女性では19歳と33歳をそれぞれ「本厄」といい、その前後の年を「前厄」「後厄」と言います。
ちょうどこの時期は身体的にも精神的にも、また社会的にも人生の節目であることから、災難や障害が身に降りかかりやすいと古くから言われてきております。
厄年とは、その歳を迎えるにあたって、各自が、健康面・生活面で災いに巡りあわないよう自重して行動していこうというものです。

三河地方では昔から、各自の厄を様々な形で分散させるという意味合いで、大厄のお祓い行事が盛んに行われて来ました。
御油町でも古くから、厄年を迎える同年の仲間が集まり、地元の氏神様である御油神社での正月の厄祓いや例祭（毎年きまった月日に行われる祭り）で神輿をかつぎ、花火を奉納する事によって災厄を祓い去ろうとしてきました。
縁あって集った者が親睦を深めつつ、このようにして厄年を乗り切ろうというのが厄年会（みやく会）です。
みやく会の名称は、昭和38〜9年生まれの同級生が集う事から、
「389」＝「みやく」として命名されました。
